Sparrow Health System was born out of volunteerism and that spirit of community service still endures today.
The forerunner of Sparrow was founded in 1896 by a volunteer group known as the Women’s Hospital Association, governed by the Women's Board of Managers.
Much has changed at Sparrow since then but volunteers are a crucial part of Sparrow’s mission. More than 1,600 volunteers contributed more than 157,000 hours on all of Sparrow’s campuses in 2014.
