Sparrow Children's Center provides a full range of
health care services to infants, children and adolescents with problems of the
blood and blood-forming tissues.
Common hematology problems include:
- anemia (low hemoglobin or red blood cell count)
- sickle cell anemia
- bleeding disorders such as hemophilia
- strokes
- clotting problems
- thalassemia
- myelodysplastic syndrome
- aplastic anemia
- immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
- histiocytosis
These services are provided in cooperation with
physicians from Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Pediatrics and
Human Development.
The physicians at MSU, along with the Sparrow,
participate in selected drug trials and national treatment protocols related to
blood problems.
