Sparrow Forensic Pathology serves as Office of the Medical Examiner (OME) for the Michigan counties of Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, and Shiawassee. Sparrow Forensic Pathology is accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners and our Physicians are board certified in anatomic, clinical, and forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology. 

The Office of the Medical Examiner provides complete death investigation and forensic pathology services to our region. 

We independently investigate to determine cause and manner of death, which may contribute to legal proceedings, influence public health policy, and assist families with end-of-life tasks. Our goal is to accurately determine the cause(s) of death and serve as a resource to Physicians and institutions.

Authority and Responsibilities
The Office of the Medical Examiner independently investigates deaths of individuals due to: violence, known or suspected non-natural deaths, when in apparent good health, unexplained deaths of children, unusual or suspicious circumstances, in a correctional facility or in custody, suspected disease constituting a threat to public health, and deaths occurring outside the care of a Physician.
