As of midnight Monday, Sparrow had distributed 8,545 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and is making plans to begin administering the vaccination this week to members of the public in the 1B group (70 and older, per the recommendation of the Ingham County Health Department) and to essential workers.

Sparrow Forensic Pathology Services issues Q3 report showing sharp rise in drug deaths in local counties

LANSING, MI – Sparrow Forensic Pathology Services has released its Q3 report on drug-related deaths in the five counties in which Sparrow serves as Medical Examiner. The report shows a 70 percent rise in drug-related deaths from July 1 to Sept. 30 of this year, with large jumps in mortality due to opioid and fentanyl use. The report provides detail on each drug death and the type of drug involved. The report, and other Forensic Pathology findings, can be found at https://www.sparrow.org/omereports. When you get to the page, click on “2020 Q3 Drug Report.” As the Office of the Medical Examiner for the five counties, Sparrow is nationally accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners to perform autopsies, postmortem examinations, and on-scene forensic death investigations as an important part of the investigation process.

Sparrow Eaton caregivers receive first doses of COVID-19 vaccine

CHARLOTTE, MI – Sixty Sparrow Eaton Hospital caregivers received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at 6 a.m. today, with 150 expected to be vaccinated by the end of the week.

Sparrow is scheduled to receive its initial distribution of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer today and will begin administering to frontline caregivers. Media will be able to see the delivery, the transfer of the vaccine to our new ultra-low temperature freezer, and a couple hours later, the first administration of the vaccine to caregivers.
