Updated information on COVID-19 and Flu: Restricted visitation is now in effect

The iSparrow Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system is central to our efforts to implement the Sparrow Way, empowering Patients and their families to be active participants in the care process.Installed at Sparrow-employed physician practices, MySparrow is already being used by thousands of Patients. The web-based portal Patient portal allows access to their medical record, test results, to renew prescriptions and send messages to their doctor. iSparrow EMR also allows Physicians and Caregivers to be the best they can be by providing the right information in the right place at the right time.

Sparrow's Sparrow's Chief Medical Information Officer, Michael Zaroukian, M.D., Ph.D., has been at the forefront of information technology in healthcare.

When he was a medical resident at Sparrow, back in the early 1980s, Dr. Zaroukian was already employing tools such as spreadsheets and Word documents to monitor Patient care and outcomes. "Fundamentally, I realized I could not take care of Patients as well without information technology as I could with it."

Dr. Zaroukian has gone on to become nationally renowned for his work in the field, chairing the American College of Physicians Medical Informatics Committee, among numerous leading industry groups. He was part of a prestigious White House panel in June 2012 on the challenges and opportunities of expanding information technology in healthcare.

For Dr. Zaroukian, use of systems such as iSparrow EMR are about getting access to the right information to care for Patients and cutting through the "paper mess" inhabited by many physicians and other providers today.

"iSparrow EMR is the technology that enables us to measure, demonstrate and deliver on our Sparrow Way goals," he says.
