The Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) department is comprised of the hospital's retail food services, patient meal service and clinical nutrition services.
FANS is committed to good nutrition through fresh, wholesome food. The FANS offices are the base for the diet office and room service call center, food service administrative staff and clinical nutrition staff.
FANS utilizes a Room Service patient care menu, which serves 1,300 made-to-order patient meals per day. Our retail services include the main hospital cafeteria, which serves over 5,000 meals per day; our St. Lawrence campus cafeteria; Court 1200 on the 2nd floor of Sparrow Professional Building; the Lobby Café on the first floor of Sparrow Hospital; and the Courtside Grill at the Michigan Athletic Club. Each of our facilities offers fresh, unique, and made to order specials daily. We also have an extensive catering service.
Clinical nutrition services include inpatient care, sub-specialty clinics, individual outpatient nutrition care, home care, hospice services, outpatient group classes, resident physician education and community outreach events. The clinical staff includes registered dietitians and dietetic technicians who provide care to approximately 1,500 inpatients per month. The scope of our medical nutrition therapy service includes cardiac, diabetes, renal, gastroenterology, intensive care, obstetrics, pediatrics, neonatology, and oncology care. Ambulatory clinical nutrition services reach an additional 200 patients per month.
FANS is located in the basement of the main hospital, next to the cafeteria. Daily office hours are 6:30 am –7:30 pm.
